People's Pharmacy: Medical pot shows promise in cancer cases

Q: I would like you to know about medical marijuana for cancer. In her late 30s, my wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, stage 4a. It was a 6-centimeter tumor that had grown around the hepatic artery and portal vein.

At first I thought marijuana was just for nausea caused by her chemo, but then I found a study in the journal Cancer Research (July 1, 2006). It showed that cannabinoids specifically fight pancreatic tumor cells.

LB's Multiplying Med Marijuana Battles

(Aug. 28, 2010) -- With a Monday (Aug. 30) deadline approaching by which LB medical marijuana collectives that haven't paid a $14,000+ non-refundable application fee (plus $11,000+ cultivation fee if they grow their own) are supposed to cease operations, disputes are percolating over the substance and procedures applied in LB's medical marijuana regulation ordinance.

While some CA cities (including Signal Hill) adopted moratoria disallowing medical marijuana collectives within their city limits, LB did what L.A. (and some others did) by seeking to regulate (restrict but legally legitimize) some medical marijuana collectives.

Legalize Marijuana to Stop the Drug Cartels

There were 72 bodies found on a ranch ninety miles south of the Texas border -- obvious victims of a drug cartel massacre. Bullets have been hitting public buildings in El Paso, and the Washington Post is reporting that at least $20 billion a year in cash is being smuggled across the U. S. border each year. What is it going to take to convince the federal government that current drug policies are not working? The fact is that the current drug laws are contributing to an all-out war on our southern border -- all in the name of a modern-day prohibition that is no more logical or realistic than the one we abandoned 75 years ago.

Appeals Court decision in Unionville case will affect medical marijuana cases statewide

CARO — A state Court of Appeals has published an earlier opinion reinstating charges against a Tuscola County man accused of manufacturing marijuana.

The published opinion now sets a precedent that is likely to affect cases involving the Medical MaIn July, the Appeals Court — comprised of Justices Peter D. O’Connell, Patrick M. Meter and Donald S. Owens, all of Lansing — reversed a Tuscola County judge’s ruling dismissing cha

Social Media Kettle Calling The Pot Black

In this last week, both Condé Nast and Mark Zuckerberg have censored "Just Say Now' marijuana ads for both the Reddit and Facebook
social networks. The ads support the passage of California's Proposition 19, which would largely legalize the use of marijuana in the state.

While Condé Nast's official rejection of the advertisements were based on the mega-publishing house not wanting to "financially benefit from this issue," Facebook took what they thought was a more politically-correct approach by claiming their network's terms of services does not "promote tobacco product."

California town wants to tax marijuana grown at home

SACRAMENTO — After a Rancho Cordova woman complained last year about the skunky smell of pot being grown by a medical marijuana-using neighbor, one City Council member suggested a ban on residential pot cultivation.

That proposal went nowhere. But now Rancho Cordova is asking voters to make the city the first in California to approve a tax on home-grown pot for personal use.

Awkward! Marijuana Expo across the street from Disneyland: Keep the kids from breathing too deeply

August 28, 2010 -- Going to the Disneyland Resort today? Don't inhale. Literally. The idea that the pot convention of all time is across the street at the Anaheim Convention Center isn't a joke, it's really going on right now with over 15,000 expected to attend. Awkward!

The event called, Know Your Rights Expo has a big draw from the Southern California area. According to their website, this appears to be more of a consumer show:

L.A. strictly interprets restriction on pot dispensaries

When the Los Angeles City Council adopted its medical marijuana ordinance, it aimed to rout unscrupulous dispensary operators whose unruly customers irritated residents and operators who opened up willy-nilly across the city, ignoring a ban on new stores.

But the ordinance has snared operators who appear to have tried hard to adhere to state law and the city's rules. Among them are some of the most politically active operators whose dispensaries are considered model operations. Last week, the city sued these dispensaries and dozens of others and asked a judge to rule that they could be shut down.

Vermont Rep. Candidate Beaudry: "I Inhaled" Marijuana

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Republican congressional candidate Paul Beaudry was ordered to undergo drug counseling after testing positive for marijuana use while a member of the Vermont National Guard in 2000, but retired instead.

The 47-year-old Beaudry told the Burlington Free Press: "I admit it. I inhaled." But Baudry said he no longer uses the drug. He said he's sympathetic to marijuana users and believes states, not the federal government, should decide whether to legalize it.
